Paralegal Schools in Arizona

The body of knowledge required to effectively perform legal support services can only come from a formal education in paralegal studies. As attorneys, corporations and government agencies work within an increasingly complex legal framework, the level of responsibility they expect paralegals to be able to take on has also increased. Law offices and other employers in Arizona have come to rely on paralegals with the kind of expertise that can only come from earning a certificate or degree in paralegal studies.

Fresh out of high school and eager to begin your career as a paralegal? Already been holding it down and ruling the law firm with your paralegal mastery, but looking to take your career to the next level by specializing in a specific area of law?

Choosing a paralegal program that’s going to help you reach your goals is a big decision. And, with such a large selection of options available, we understand that making that decision can be totally overwhelming.

What we’ve done here is simplify things a bit by listing our top picks for schools with online programs or a campus presence in Arizona. Our selections are entirely based on the quality of the school and the programs they offer. That’s why our curated list only includes schools that have received regional or national accreditation.

Many of the school you’ll find here do offer exclusively online programs. Request information to learn more about tuition costs and delivery options.

Brighton got our attention because both the degree and certificate program are offered exclusively online. Both programs have open enrollment, so you can register and start at any time throughout the year. And, the schedule is flexible and self-paced – you get up to 2 years to complete the degree program and up to 1 year to complete the certificate program. As an added perk, the school offers a variety of flexible payment plans.

Bryan University

Bryan University is a 4-year private college located in Tempe, Arizona.

Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies and Litigation Technologies – Online

Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies and Litigation Technologies – Online

  • Accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools

What’s really unique about the paralegal degree programs offered by Bryan University is the inclusion of e-discovery training. E-discovery is an increasingly used method used to streamline the discovery process, and it’s something that most paralegal programs don’t typically include in the basic curriculum. Both the associate degree and bachelor degree program at Bryan University incorporate e-discovery training via a simulation lab called ELSSA (E-discovery Lab for Software, Simulation, and Applications).

Both degree programs are available exclusively online. As an added perk, the cost of one Certified Paralegal (CP) exam attempt is included in the cost of tuition for the bachelor degree.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Government with an Emphasis in Legal Studies – On-Campus or Online

  • Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools

What’s unique about the bachelor degree offered by Grand Canyon University is the emphasis on government – more specifically, the relationship between American politics and government and how our constitutional foundation creates a framework for the legal process. This degree option is somewhat different than the rest in that students get the opportunity to earn both a legal and administrative education.

The Bachelor of Arts degree requires 120 credits and can be done on-campus in Phoenix or completely online. Courses taken on-campus can be scheduled during the daytime or the evenings, but evening classes only meet once per week.

It also encompasses a few unique core topics not typically covered by most programs, like immigration law and environmental law. Some of the local internship hosts include the Arizona Center for Disability Law, the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

The certificate program is 39 credits in length and is also available exclusively online. However, the certificate program does not offer an internship opportunity.

What’s unique about this school is that paralegal students get the opportunity to participate in a Westlaw training program and receive certification.

The Master of Science in Legal Studies is a 36-credit online degree program. The program can be completed in as little as 12 months, though students attending part-time will need about three years.

What stood out to us about this school is the two-week no-obligation free trial offered to all students. With this free trial, students get complete access to all course materials and interactive classrooms and can then decide for themselves, without obligation, if the program offered by NJU is a good fit.

Phoenix College

Phoenix College is a 2-year public college located in Phoenix and is part of the Maricopa County Community College District.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Paralegal Studies – On-Campus

Paralegal Studies Certificate of Completion (CCL) – On-Campus (post-associate)

  • ABA-approved
  • Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools

We love the fact that Phoenix College offers a program for aspiring paralegals at all levels – whether you’re just getting started and looking to pursue an associate’s degree, or you already hold an associate’s degree in some other area and are looking to get the legal skills you need through a post-degree certificate program.

It’s important to note that neither of the paralegal programs offered at Phoenix are available exclusively online. Though many of the general education courses can be taken online, only 10 of the required 14 paralegal specialty courses are available online.

What we really like about Phoenix College is that its paralegal programs are ABA-approved and regionally accredited, and the institution itself is uniquely designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution.

The paralegal certificate is a 42-credit program designed for those who already hold an associate’s degree. An internship is included here as well.

We like the fact that Pima Community College recognizes that many of its students may already be employed and can’t follow a traditional daytime classroom schedule. So, while the core paralegal courses at Pima are not generally offered online, many of them are offered in the evenings.
