Broward College Interview

Broward College

We recognized Broward College for offering one of Top Associate’s Degree Programs in Paralegal Studies, adding them to our list of top recommendations for students in the area.

We were excited to hear from Alana Dasent, faculty member at Broward College, who took the time to answer a few questions about how the school works to create a great student experience that helps prepare graduates for a career in the legal field.

Are you finding a lot of career changers in your program looking to get their start in the legal profession?

Alana: Yes. Most of our students are more mature students looking for a second career.

Paralegals are really getting the respect they deserve these days, and taking on more and more responsibilities on the job. How is this changing the approach to educating new paralegals?

Alana: We are constantly updating our curriculum to include more technology and technical training. Paralegals are going to need these schools to remain competitive in the job market especially with the changing field of e-discovery and artificial intelligence.

Does the program at your school include an internship and are faculty available to help students find one?

Alana: Yes. Our practicum program is optional and the Program Manager and other faculty members assist students in finding internships in addition to the career center.

What are some of the things you love most about the paralegal program at your school – the kind of things you’d like future students to know about as they consider their options?

Alana: Our program is approved by the American Bar Association and highly regarded in the legal community. The faculty and administration is very student oriented and supportive of their career goals as well as addressing any obstacles that may hinder their progression in the program.
